The art show world is a complex one and the NAIA recognizes that the future of the industry depends upon new artists successfully entering our world. We created this program to help new artists prepare for their first few art shows: applications, displays, images, presentation, and many other topics will probably all be new and it can be nice to have somewhere to turn to for insight and answers to these questions. So in addition to any help your show may offer emerging artists, we have a few resources that we are happy to provide them:
NAIA Artist Mentors
The NAIA Artist Mentors program offers them a chance to be paired up with a veteran art show artist either in person, by phone, email or Facebook. They are there help answer the questions that may arise along the way and share some of their knowledge and experiences. This mentor may or may not be showing in the same medium but they are there to offer guidance on those aspects of art shows that are more universal.
The NAIA Mentor Program Facebook Group
In addition they are invited and encouraged to participate in the NAIA Mentor Program Facebook group. The group is comprised of other NAIA Emerging Artists and Mentors and is specifically intended to answer the questions they may have early on in their art show career. This group is a great resource where one can get multiple perspectives from other experienced artists and share the new experience of shows with other emerging artists.
In 2007 the NAIA compiled a 50 page book of useful advice on the art show world written by and for artists. We offer a free electronic (.pdf) version with each NAIA Emerging Artist membership or they can order the physical book online.
Other NAIA Resources:
The NAIA Facebook Forum: discussions of various aspects of the art show industry and open to the entire art show community.
Our biannual print publication, The Independent Artist
And many useful NAIA member discounts.
In recognition of the generous support Contributing Member shows give to the NAIA, we offer a discounted bulk Emerging Artists Membership rate of $10 per artist. Non-member shows may register their emerging artists and individual artists who are participating in art festivals for the first time may join at the discounted membership rate of $25.
